School Assemblies – Spring 2012

Singer Mary McCormack, M.M. delights audiences with songs and stories of Ireland, including hits by Celtic Woman, Josh Groben, the Clancy Brothers and many traditional Irish folk song favorites.  Irish Step Dancers perform jigs and reels, with audience participation, games and prizes.  Beautiful costumes and glorious singing give audiences of all ages a memorable fun event!

School Assemblies – Spring 2012

Out of the mist to the sound of ancient drums, our costumed performers creep, crawl and caw.  Actors dressed as Rain Forest birds, animals and insects teach, sing and dance.  Students will long remember this experience of seeing the Amazon unfold in their gym or auditorium, while learning about the many locations, inhabitants, benefits and details of the earth’s beautiful and complex rain forests.  Students will participate on stage, as well as in the audience with interaction with performers, stories and songs.

A delightful December gift to the whole school, this multi-cultural treasure brings songs, stories, dances and traditions from many countries to life with glittery costumes and fun for all ages.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanakuah, Kwanza, the Chinese New Year and Santa Lucia Day are illuminated from Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Asia, the Caribbean, Africa and the United States.  Santa makes a surprise appearance in the second half of the show, leading sing-a-longs and shaking hands.  A yuletide delight!

History comes alive when Christopher Columbus, Poccohantus, John Audon and others walk through your student audience with drama, humor, music and traditional costumes.  The outstanding heroes and heroines that helped shape our nation tell their stories in a performance appropriate for grades K through 8, with square dancing, sing-a-longs and abundant audience participation.   Susan B. Anthony, Abe Lincoln, Sara Tubman, Lucky Lindy, Ruby Bridges, John F. Kennedy and Neil Armstrong will entertain and educate children, with a rousing patriotic grand finale that salutes veterans, reminding students that their own family members are heroes, too!  Perfect for Columbus Day, Presidents’ Day and throughout the school year.

LEADERSHIP * GOAL SETTING * RESPECT are presented in a pop concert style format that captivates students of all ages.  The message of ZERO TOLERANCE for bullying and specific non-violent self defense techniques are taught, while a high standard of personal excellence is reinforced with popular music performed live by our professional musicians and educators.  Practical conflict resolution techniques are modeled with abundant audience participation.  The message keeps coming back to developing high academic standards, work ethic and developing talent, while respecting each other.    Colorful costumes, high energy and message-reinforcing music already familiar to children leaves a lasting impression.

Join Christopher Columbus, Betsy Ross and Abraham Lincoln at our Summer Concerts in the Park!  Rousing songs of America, drama, humor and dance help bring these and other heroes to life in beautiful period costumes.  Shendandoah, Camp Town Races, Red River Valley, You’re a Grand Old Flag, Be an American and Yankee Doodle Dandee are just some of the traditional favorites performed by the Alabaster Voices.  Our local veterans, both living and deceased are honored during the grand finale!

Bullying Prevention is a specialty of Alabaster Assemblies.Since 1991, Alabaster has presented workshops, concerts and motivational talks against bullying to over 500,000 children in elementary schools, as well as teens and adults in juvenille detention centers and prisons.

“Bullying continues to flourish in our schools and neighborhoods,” says presenter Mary McCormack.  “It can only be stopped with pro-active education for our children.  Children need to know how to prevent intimidation and violence when there’s no teacher or parent around.  This school assembly teaches students specific techniques on how to protect themselves when confronted.”
